Big Brovaz (pronounced as "brothers") is a British R&B and hip-hop group formed in London. They gained prominence in the early 2000s with their unique blend of urban music styles, including R&B, hip-hop, and pop. The group is known for their catchy hooks, energetic performances, and diverse musical influences.
Big Brovaz originally comprised three women (Cherise, who won the MOBO for best unsigned artist in 2000; Dion; and Nadia, born in Reading), three men (J-Rock; Flawless, born in Lagos; and Randy), plus two producers Skillz (also known as JJC, born in Kano, who also managed his group 419 Squad), and Michael Fingaz Mugisha. They came together in 2002 and quickly rose to fame with their debut single "Nu Flow," which was a commercial success in the UK and other parts of Europe.
Their music often featured a mix of male and female vocals, along with a fusion of different genres. Big Brovaz's style was distinctive for its fun and upbeat tracks that combined elements of pop and R&B with hip-hop and dancehall influences. Some of their other well-known songs include "Favourite Things," "Baby Boy," and "We Wanna Thank You."
In May 2012, the four remaining original members of the band (Cherise, Nadia, J-Rock and Randy) set off on a tour of Australia with three members of pop group S Club 7. On 14 September 2014 the group released their first single since reforming independently. In October and December 2018, the band joined with Peter Andre, 5ive, S Club 3, Boyzlife (Keith Duffy and Shane Lynch), B*Witched, Blazin' Squad and East 17, for a 5-date revival arena tour. Cherise and Nadia also performed as Booty Luv.
In 2021 the group released "Controlla". This was the first release by the group that did not feature vocals from the female members of the band.
We Love the 2000s
In the summer of 2022, Big Brovaz performed at the '00s revival event "We Love the 2000s", along with contemporary acts like Wyclef Jean, Kate Ryan and Bomfunk MC's.
