Mimikry – Liseberg

Borlänge punks Mimikry rocked the park this summer night!

Mimikry is a punk band formed in Borlänge, Sweden, in 1994.

Anyone growing up in Sweden back in the 90s will probably remember two of the forming members of Mimikry; singer Hjalmar "Hjalle" Östman and drummer Jonas "Heavy" Stentäpp. They were on the prime time TV show På rymmen ("On the Run") which was a large-scale version of hide and seek, where contestants were to stay hidden from a celebrity bloodhound. Pretty much the whole country followed the show, which made Hjalle & Heavy household names, thanks to their humour and likeability. The duo even came up with comedy songs which they performed on the show, making fun of the celebrity hired to chase them down.

Mimikry's music is a tad more serious, though, often with politically charged themes, still with Swedish lyrics.

Two Nights of Punk

Liseberg is one of the largest amusement parks in Sweden, and during a in early August, 2024, it held a punk-themed weekend at the smaller music stage. Mimikry played the first night, following Världen Brinner which I also photographed.

The night after had the bands Trubbel and Troublemakers play.

Photographing the Event

I shot from the pit (shout out to Liseberg for giving me access) and with my usual indoor settings of 1/200s mechanical shutter, aperture wide open, and Auto ISO.

The hardest part about this shoot was actually the post-processing, though, since the band bathed in purple light. Even with RAW files, you can only do so much with the colours before they start breaking. With a bit of fiddling, I eventually managed to get somewhat decent results at least.
