DISA – Herrljungafestivalen

Bassist and singer Disa Engström and her band took on the tough job of playing a midday festival gig the main stage. The few who were awake could enjoy some fine guitar-driven power pop!

Stockholm-based artist, bassist and songwriter Disa Engström has previously fronted the band Pretty Princess, but in 2022 released her first album as a solo artist under the name DISA. Although DISA is now a solo artist, she prefers to play with a full band on stage when she plays live.

The solo debut "On My Own" includes the singles "Billy" and "GT40". Both songs are inspired by Halmstad's pride Gyllene Tider who, together with The Sounds, are Disa's biggest influences, musically.

DISA's live band is five man strong, with a drummer and keyboard player further back.

Early Festival Gig at the Main Stage

Last year, DISA played the smaller stage at Herrljungafestivalen. This time, however, Engström and her band took on the main stage, albeit at the early slot around four in the afternoon, and before most attendees had arrived to the festival.

They didn't let the sparse audience discourage them, though, and kept rocking. Towards the end of the show, they even handed out a few t-shirts.

Herrljungafestivalen is a free 1-day festival with two stages. It has also been held in 2022 and 2023. I unfortunately just learned about the festival a couple of weeks prior to its 2024 installment, however.

Apart from an impressive lineup of bands and artists, the festival also offered plenty of food trucks and facilities. It also offered activities like wall climbing, table tennis, and even video games and board games during the day.

The park area which the festival took place around also had a large market with loads of stands from local merchants selling all sorts of fun stuff.

The festival felt very cosy and inviting. Hopefully, now that I know of it, I'll get to visit it again in the summers to come!

Photographing the Event

CrowdSnapper managed to get press photo accreditation to the festival which gave access to the pit of the larger Southside stage. Special thanks to the festival's project manager Jesper Jansson for giving me this opportunity!

Shooting the show was pretty straight-forward, and I was able to take pics from the pit as well as from the audience area. They daylight also helped getting sharp images. In terms of settings, I shot in aperture priority wide open (f/2.8) with a minimum shutter speed of 1/250s.
